Join Julius Baer as a Java Engineer and play a key role in advancing our High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure. Our hybrid platform, spanning hundreds of on-premises servers and cloud resources in Microsoft Azure, delivers high-performance, resilient computing capabilities that power a state-of-the-art trading floor. You will be instrumental in maintaining, optimizing, and scaling this critical environment as we continue to grow and innovate.
Tasks
- Future-proof and maintain Java-based cluster scheduling and control systems
- Ensure high availability and reliability of HPC resources
- Maintain and improve monitoring systems for infrastructure and client submissions
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to balance resource allocation with business requirements
- Troubleshoot and optimize performance across on-prem and Azure-augmented environments
- Ensure compliance with banking regulatory requirements
- Develop a deep understanding of a large existing codebase and propose improvements
- Maintain and enhance multiple monitoring systems for both infrastructure and client job submissions
Requirements
- Strong Java development expertise (core and enterprise-level)
- Experience with distributed systems
- Experience with distributed execution engines
- Experience with NoSQL databases
- Experience with ActiveMQ (messaging)
- Experience with front-end web technologies (legacy UI maintenance)
- Experience with Python (for API and tooling)
- Familiarity with Azure Portal and Azure SDK for Java
- Familiarity with Red Hat Linux
- Understanding of banking systems and regulatory requirements
- Fluent English; German is a plus
- Bonus skills: Scala and C++
- Bonus skills: Kubernetes (container orchestration)
- Bonus skills: Java multithreaded development expertise
- Used to designing and developing collaboratively
- Good code review skills, pride in code quality
- Focused, capable of driving the delivery of technical changes to completion
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with occasional priority changes and context switches
