As a Senior Power Electronics Engineer for Traction Projects at ABB in Switzerland, you will play a pivotal role in designing and integrating advanced traction power electronics systems for passenger trains, metros, trams, and next-generation locomotives. You will collaborate with global teams to deliver high-quality, innovative solutions that align with customer needs and industry standards. This position offers the opportunity to lead technical projects, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to the evolution of traction product families.

Tasks

  • Design traction power electronics converter and energy storage systems, ensuring seamless integration within vehicles.
  • Lead the specification, execution, analysis, and documentation of Type and Qualification tests to ensure robust system performance.
  • Take ownership of assigned project work packages, developing deep expertise in core engineering competencies, components, or tools, and providing technical guidance to peers.
  • Optimise design processes and customer solutions independently or in cross-functional specialist teams.
  • Drive project execution by planning, coordinating, managing stakeholders, and communicating solutions with a focus on quality, schedule, and deliverables.
  • Contribute to the evolution of traction product families through standardisation and continuous improvements.
  • Help drive innovation in the integration of traction converters with energy storage systems.

Requirements

  • Qualified Electrical Engineer qualification is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in power electronics for customer projects.
  • Experience with traction converters and energy storage systems is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical tasks, priorities, and deliverables independently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a high level of ownership for project deliverables.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills are required.
  • Conversational German language skills are a strong advantage.
  • Proactive attitude with a focus on continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within teams.
