As a Customer Application Engineer at ABB in Switzerland, you will play a pivotal role in driving application expertise for ABB’s Critical Power portfolio. This position serves as a bridge between customers, Sales, Product Management, and R&D, translating market needs into technical solutions that support business growth and innovation. Tasks

  • Build and develop expertise in customer applications, solution architectures, market segments, and customer value propositions for the Critical Power portfolio while supporting Sales with fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Develop and maintain standards, methodologies, tools, best practices, reference architectures, and reusable application frameworks to ensure consistency and engineering excellence.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for strategic customer applications, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing across Sales, Product Management, R&D, and other Agile Units.
  • Drive innovation in capturing market trends, customer needs, and application requirements, translating them into actionable insights that support business growth and future product development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Energy Systems, or a related field is required.
  • More than 5 years of professional experience in Critical Power, UPS systems, Energy Storage, Power Conversion, or related applications is essential.
  • Strong understanding of customer applications, solution architectures, market segments, and channel dynamics is required.
  • Ability to translate customer requirements into differentiated technical solutions and compelling customer value propositions aligned with business strategy is necessary.
  • Experience supporting Sales organisations through technical consulting, customer engagement, and channel enablement is required.
  • Experience developing standards, methodologies, tools, and best practices within a technical organisation is essential.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with experience working across customers, channel partners, Sales, Product Management, and R&D, are required.
  • Knowledge of international standards and regulations, including Grid Codes and utility operator requirements such as NERC, ERCOT, Fingrid, and IEEE 2800, is necessary.
